Clear-Com's Jay Wallace: We launched the Gen-IC a cloud-based intercom for broadcast

Author: Produ Writer Carmen Pizano

Clear-Com has launched Gen-IC, an innovative cloud-based intercom solution that allows users around the world to communicate without the need for physical equipment. Running via a cloud server, Gen-IC facilitates remote productions without the need to send crews or engineers to events at short notice, making it an attractive option for broadcasters looking for a cost-effective wireless intercom solution.

Gen-IC Cloud Intercom will be available through Clear-Com’s global network of reseller partners, allowing end users to quickly deploy multiple virtual clients as needed. A standout feature is its unique ability to integrate with ClearCom’s extensive infrastructure across LAN, WAN and Internet, said Jay Wallace, ClearCom’s regional sales manager.

According to the specialist, latency, a crucial issue for audio communications, is minimized with the ability to deploy the virtual intercom application to selectable regional targets. This allows administrators to place Gen-IC Cloud Intercom as close as possible to where teams are working, linking Gen-IC instances around the world and creating an ideal communication and collaboration tool for mission-critical productions.

“With the challenges of massive events like the Olympics in mind, Gen-IC makes production easier by allowing equipment to be installed in different locations with minimal latency thanks to its cloud-based servers. This system is not only easy to operate and deploy, but also offers superior audio quality and cost flexibility,” said Wallace.

Clear-Com is working on connecting other parts, such as the Arcadia base station, which supports its wireless frequency system, directly to the cloud. This development, expected to be ready in a year, will allow intercom panels to be connected remotely without the need for a matrix frame or expensive parts.

In a statement, Clear-Com said that Antonio Barbosa, an engineer at TV Globo, said: “TV Globo’s test experience with Gen-IC Cloud Intercom was extraordinary. The system demonstrated fluid communication and exceptional audio quality, even in event scenarios with high data traffic.”

One of the most important features of Gen-IC is its subscription-based service model, which provides significant flexibility. Users can purchase the subscription only for the time they need, avoiding ongoing costs once the event is over.

“Clear-Com has already started business with companies and broadcasters in Latin America, having conducted a beta test in Brazil for a year. This collaboration has been fundamental to the development of the product, and it is expected that, after full launch, Gen-IC will expand to more countries,” said Wallace.
