Sustainability Initiatives

At HME, we are dedicated to creating a sustainable future. We strive to minimize our environmental impact, promote resource efficiency, and support our communities. Sustainability is at the core of our operations, guiding us to make responsible choices for a better tomorrow. As part of our commitment to protecting the environment, HME is diligent in its efforts to reduce the impact on the environment at its company headquarters in Carlsbad, California.

Energy Efficiency

HME Headquarters building utilizes and maintains an LED lighting system that is fully Title 24 compliant in energy efficiency. Our building is carbon neutral with 2080 solar panels installed, producing 4,011,189.9 kWh worth of electricity to date, and has lowered our energy costs by 30% a month. HME has joined the Clean Energy Alliance, a Community Choice Aggregator, ensuring the electricity we use is generated by sustainable means. Onsite EV charging stations helps save an average of 800 trees a year and offset 286 gallons of gas. Landscaping is designed to eliminate wastewater with eight bio basins on site to collect storm water and saves about 561,000 gallons of water per year.

Recycling and E-Waste

At HME’s headquarters we provide onsite recycling of cardboard, mixed paper, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, electronic waste, printer/toner cartridges and wood pallets. Since January 1, 2024, we have recycled 37.25 tons of cardboard and 50,000 pounds of E-Waste.

Cybersecurity Compliance

HME follows these compliances: NIST SP800-171 and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. While no certification exists for these compliances, we used a third-party auditor to validate our assessment that HME follows the NIST 800-171 and CSF controls. We completed ours back in January 2024 - NIST Compliant.

Supply Chain Disclosures

We are committed to ensuring that our supply chains are free from forced labor and child labor. It is our policy to ensure that our supply chain reflects our values and respect for human rights. We are compliant with California, Canada and UK Supply Chain Acts. These disclosures can also be found on our company website.

RoHS Compliant

HME is compliant with all RoHS regulations. While there is no official RoHS certificate issued by a regulatory agency, HME self-certifies its products through Declarations of Conformity, which accept legal responsibility for meeting all RoHS regulations. 

DNVGL and IEC Marine Certifications

DNVGL-CG-0339 and IEC 60945 are important certifications for marine equipment, ensuring that devices meet stringent standards for safety, performance, and reliability in maritime environments. Applies to Encore for Industrial & Marine Products: RS-801-IM, RS-802-IM, MS-802-IM, RM-802-IM, KB-802GM-IM.

High Pressure Wireless Operation

High-pressure wireless operation in electronics typically refers to the use of wireless sensors and systems designed to operate under high-pressure conditions. These systems are often used in harsh environments where traditional wired connections might fail due to extreme conditions such as high pressure, high temperature, or corrosive atmospheres. Applies to O2 FS Beltpacks: FSII-BP19-O2, FSII-BP24-O2.

Lean Certification Program

We apply Lean principles as we work together to identify and make incremental improvements to all our processes. HME initiated a tiered internal Lean development and certification program. The HME Lean Practitioner Certification program focuses on Lean Principles, Lean Problem Solving, and Sustaining Lean. This program focuses on A3 Thinking, team member collaboration, root cause analysis, and project execution strategies. To maintain the Lean Champion certification, employees must complete at least one Continuous Improvement project each year.

We are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of quality in all our products and services. As part of our commitment to excellence, we are continuously enhancing our Quality Assurance (QA) processes to ensure they align with our sustainability goals. By integrating sustainable practices into our QA initiatives, we aim to reduce our environmental impact while maintaining the highest quality standards.
