- Students benefit from seminar sessions and hands-on workshops -
Clear-Com® held a customized live performance training session last month for the Audio Engineering Technology students at the Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business, Belmont University in Nashville, TN.
The college is located just off the infamous Music Row and offers cutting-edge facilities and faculty that combine academic scholarship with real-world industry experience. Benjamin Poff, Instructor for the Audio Engineering Technology (AET) degree program, originally contacted Clear-Com to request student training on intercom systems for live performance applications.“The AET program includes the operation, installation, manufacturing, and design of audio systems and equipment used in music, film and live event production, so we need to equip our students with the knowledge and experience of the equipment they will encounter after graduation,” said Poff. “This is why I reached out to Clear-Com.”
Poff approached Clear-Com for training that would help students to learn more about modern-day intercom systems, should they choose a career in live performance. For this reason, Clear-Com’s FreeSpeak II® Digital Wireless Intercom, LQ® Series Interfaces and HelixNet® Digital Network Partyline Systems were the focus of the trainings due to their popularity and ubiquity in the live performance market. After talking with Poff, Rom Rosenblum, Applications Engineer at Clear-Com and an audio veteran, devised a seminar-style session on the general history and concept of intercom, followed by deep-dive, hands-on sessions on beltpacks, base stations, panels and more.
Rom took a comprehensive approach to leading these sessions; he spoke about the technical aspects of Clear-Com solutions, and he also covered key aspects of navigating the industry in the real world to enhance earnings and career prospects. “The students were blown away by Rom’s presentation and were able to take a lot of valuable information from his expertise with the systems. As faculty, we also learned a few things ourselves!” said Poff. “I’m really impressed that an industry-leading company like Clear-Com would provide this kind of customized learning experience to help the next generation of audio engineers reach their potential.”
Mike Rucker, Sales Director, Americas, Clear-Com, said, “Clear-Com is fully committed to investing in the future, not only with our products and technology but also in the future of the industry itself. In addition to our outstanding regular training programs, we are keen to work with higher education establishments to give students access to in-depth product training as well as sharing the invaluable industry expertise of our experienced staff.”
